Toronto City Council Supports EYCC Decision

Humber Valley Village residents and supporters received great news today, when Toronto City Council voted, without debate, to support the Etobicoke York Community Council (EYCC) decision of May 14 to reject the First Capital Realty proposal for Humbertown and to support the resolution requiring a Secondary Plan review for Humber Valley Village. The Council vote was 28/11 in support of the EYCC decision.

“I would like to thank the persistent lobbying efforts of our local Councillor, Gloria Lindsay Luby and her team; our own team of volunteers and Board members, who have given endless hours of their time and our residents and supporters who have emailed, written and phoned the City Planning Staff and Councillors to ensure that the voices of our community are heard,” said Niels Christensen, president of the HVVRA.

As a result of today’s decision by Council, the supporters who signed up to be at City Hall Wednesday, Jun 12 at 1:30pm can take the day off. The Humbertown decision was passed as a procedural item, thereby avoiding the requirement for debate tomorrow. The item will not be subject to any further discussion at this meeting of Council.

Although the HVVRA has been successful before Council, which is an important step, FCR has already filed an appeal to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB). We will continue to need your support and donations, to permit us to oppose the appeal and stand up for the neighbourhood.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
